I am excited to announce the inaugural year of the Global Leadership Council (GLC). You may remember conversations earlier this summer about the Net2 Local project. Over the summer we had many conversations with NetSquared Local organizers to discuss how we could best develop opportunities for the Net2 Local network as well as provide organizers with greater support. Together, we wanted to define how we might work together to improve the experience for Local groups while improving communications across the network, and more.
We paid close attention to the conversations we had with you and made sure that we incorporated all the themes discussed during these inspiring conversations to create a new, unique and exciting opportunity that will not only impact NetSquared, but TechSoup as an organization.
Announcing the Global Leadership Council:
The Global Leadership Council will serve as a mechanism for TechSoup Global and the NetSquared team to work together with a smart and committed group of innovators through discussions on how to improve existing activities and inspire new local programs.
Goals of the Global Leadership Council include:
Sharing ideas and expertise on how we can improve Net2 and TSG programming
Identifying current capabilities of the network and desired capabilities locally
Surfacing stories about innovative projects and impact emerging from Local communities
We want to emphasize that we do not see this as a governing body of NetSquared Local groups, but rather an advisory board that will offer creative and innovative problem solving options to spark new ideas that benefit the NetSquared community at-large.
What will the Global Leadership Council do?
Members selected to be part of the Global Leadership Council will:
Help to identify a feedback mechanism between Local groups and NetSquared
Help to improve the NetSquared community by addressing challenges collectively
Assist in the creative problem solving of TechSoup and NetSquared organizational topics
Mentor a NetSquared Local organizer
These are just a few of the tasks that Council members will be responsible for during the year.
What is the length of the Council commitment?
The Global Leadership Council member’s time commitment will include:
One year commitment to the Global Leadership Council
Monthly 1.5 hour virtual meeting with the Council
Monthly 30 minute call with Vanessa
Monthly 30 minute Skype with Local organizer mentee and follow-up emails
What type of people and skills are you looking for?
In addition to coordinating a Local group, we are looking for skills and attributes that include:
An openness to working with a diverse global team
Passion for innovative problem solving
Ability to meet the outlined time commitment
Interest in providing guidance and mentorship to another Net 2 organizer
Passion for leadership development and community organizing at the global level
Creative thinking skills to help guide the growth and improvement of Net 2 programs
Ability to actively listen and collaborate with others to reach mutually agreeable positions
Curiosity, adaptability, and an ability to put oneself in another person’s shoes
Sense of humor is nice, but not required
What happens next?
We are kicking off the call for applications today and encourage all NetSquared Local organizers to apply. If you’re not a Local organizer or are simply interested in following the process and conversations over the next year, please stay tuned for a monthly wrap-up post on the NetSquared blog. Each month, starting in January, we will post an update of activities from the month’s Global Leadership Council. The application deadline is Tuesday, November 22, 2011. If you have any questions please contact Vanessa Rhinesmith.
