EVENTS FOR NONPROFITS PLANNED BY OUR FRIENDS
THE NEW SOCIETIES ACT @ ALLIANCE FOR ARTS + CULTURE
There are more than 27,000 non-profit societies in BC, providing services and programs that touch virtually every citizen. The BC Society Act, which provides the rules for governance and incorporation of non-profits, is set for important changes. The official proclamation of the new Societies Act will likely take place in fall 2016, and there will be a two year transition period by which time all societies in BC will have to make the switch to the new Act.
MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert and PLEO invite you to join Debbie Turner, Deputy Registrar along with representatives from the Ministry of Finance who will guide us through the critical changes being introduced through the new Societies Act. Learn what the new Act will mean to your Society’s current corporate and governance practices, highlight significant changes from the current legislation, and provide tips on how to prepare your board and your organization for the transition to the new Act.
At our next session, we plan to cover Event Management in the Raiser's Edge.
The first presentation will showcase how Signature Events and Independent Community events are handled at VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, from overall Event record set-up with a focus on important things to track to guest list responses, attendees, donations, sponsorships & payments, gift summaries and expenses.
Back by popular demand, this interactive workshop will help hone your face-to-face asking skills. Expert fundraisers will lead each table in different ask scenarios to guide your approach and build your confidence. This session's ask experts will be confirmed later this spring.
