Nonprofits and Tech Pros: A Match Made in Chicago This Fall

Greetings! My name is Heidi Massey and I am the organizer of the Chicago, Illinois Net Squared Camp, Net Squared Chicago Counts (Conference Uniting Nonprofits & Technology.) The Chicago event will be taking place on Sunday, September 12th at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Fortunately, IIT is very accessible to public transportation and will have ample parking spaces for cars as well.

Net Squared Chicago Counts is a wonderful opportunity to bring together technology professionals seeking meaningful volunteer opportunities with organizations struggling to manage their technology needs. I had been working on creating this type of conference for the Chicago area and announced it at a local Net Squared meetup. Fortunately, Net Squared had been creating similar events globally through local meetup groups-thus a great collaborative effort was born.

I have been an avid supporter of the Chicago Net Squared meetup since early fall 2009 and was thrilled when I was recently invited to become one of the organizers. Our group is a diverse combination of technology and nonprofit professionals. Many of the tech professionals are either employed by companies involved in social good or are volunteers with these types of organizations. The group is very excited about the conference and I have received an overwhelming response both from other organizers as well as other members of the group. Chicago is a perfect city for this kind of event.  Although we are a large city with great stuff happening, there isn't always a lot of coordination of effort.  The conference will provide an opportunity for people to break out of their silos to create a larger social good community. We have a very active tech community and a very active nonprofit community. This conference will allow our Net Squared meetup to facilitate the integration of these two communities with the potential for some extraordinary results. We are hoping to create an exciting collaborative tool for nonprofit organizations at this event as well as help to facilitate long term relationships between tech professionals and nonprofit organizations. More information will be shared through the Net Squared site as well as through our event website which we hope to have developed soon.
