Has your NetSquared Group Hosted a Speed Date for Tech Tools?

I'm feeling super energized after hanging out/learning from more than 10 other NetSquared organizers at the 18NTC conference. There's a special magic that happens when we get together in a room... as you know, since you're creating that same community-building opportunity for your own members every month.

Let's highlight the exertise of our members! May's suggested topic, the Technology Show and Tell, is my favorite event format because it's crowdsourced. That means you don't have to recruit a presenter. :-)

How does it work? Participants are given up to 5 minutes to share one tool that helps make them more productive. It can be a CRM, communication tool, fundraising platform, some social media magic-sauce or other clever web tool that helps further their mission, or get work done.

Examples include: Trello, Canva, screencasting, data visualization tools, pivot charts, etc. But your members will definitely surprise you with their demos!

Suggestions

  • Recruit three presenters before the event so that you have people to start the event - once your members see how fun and easy sharing a tool can be you'll be fighting off people
  • Assign one member of the audience to be the time keeper, holding each session to five minutes maximum
  • Distribute index cards and pens to the audience to collect people's tool or idea and tape them to the wall as each session is delivered

Organizer Tips

  1. The Meetup/WeWork partnership is expanding… Some groups now have a “Book a Space” link available from their dashboard in Meetup. 37 WeWork locations are now accepting applications to host meetups.
  2. Printable promotional leaflets are available to help advertise your group.
  3. Need some sample social media posts? Does this help?
  4. Posting your events to Facebook? Add NetSquared as a co-host to be featured on our Facebook page.
