Google is typically a top, if not the top, referrer of traffic to your website, so it pays to have a well thought out plan when it comes to attracting the attention of the search giant.
While it’s important to rank high for words and phrases related to your online action campaign, it is even more important to rank high for words and phrases related to your online action campaign that people are actually searching for.
For instance, if you are running a campaign to save Sumatran tigers, it would be valuable to be the top search result for the search term “sumatran tigers” right? On one hand, yes it would be desirable. as there are roughly 27,000 searches a month globally for the term “sumatran tigers.” But there are a whopping 20 million global searches a month for the more generic phrase “about tiger.”
I would say in the long term it would pay off in potentially crushing amounts of traffic to be in the top 5 results for the term “about tiger”! And a lot of those folks I bet would be interested in your campaign to help save the Sumatran tiger!
