If the answer is yes, then you need to check out the upcoming Open Data Hackathon. It's a grassroots and distributed network of events across the world all with the same goal in mind: to write applications using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption open data policies by the world's local, regional and national governments.

What is the Open Data Hackathon?

It’s a gathering of citizens in cities around the world to write applications using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption open data policies by the world's local, regional and national governments.

If you have an idea for an app, or you want to contribute to a project, or you simply want to see what's being made, then you should definitely check the Hackfest out. No matter your skillset or interests, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn and help the global open data community grow.

How is it going to work?

These hackathons, like small pieces, will be loosely joined by 5 basic principles:

  1. It will happen on Saturday, December 4th
  2. It is open to anyone and everyone
  3. Anyone can organize a local Hackathon event in their city
  4. You can hack anything that involves open data
  5. We'll share ideas across cities on the day
