I'm thrilled to announce that the London Net Tuesday is officially here!  The community in London and around the UK is ready for a solid, monthly event that brings together social changemakers (whether a nonprofit organization in the traditional sense, a group of interested citizens, social venture capitalists or an individual with an idea) and technological forerunners together to mix, swap stories and ideas, build new relationships, and collaborate on new projects.

The Little House, is a community hall that myself and others have been working on, over the last few years to provide a space for artists and community groups we work from an old school hall in Hounslow West London, we provide muti-media equipment to community groups and provide space for bands to rehearse and play as well as record, for the bands they need this space so they can develop and learn how to use a studio before they go and use and pay money for studio time. Community groups need the  space for thier projects and with most do not allways have the funds to pay for space, so we try to do as much as we can for them.

Looking for an interesting use of the grass-roots internet? Well, look no further than Spot.Us, a project of the nonprofit Center for Media Change that allows an individual or group to take control of news by sharing the cost (crowdfunding) to commission freelance journalists. Spot Us is made possible by the Knight Foundation.

How does it work?

Tu Diabetes is an online community where members help each other out, educate themslves and share the steps taken every day to stay healthy while living with this very serious condition. Tu Diabetes employs a gamut of web tools in its process of reaching out to new community members, keeping the community informed, and educating the public.

I talk to Wendy Brawer and Thomas Turnbull about the origins of Green Map System (greenmap.org) and what they to accomplish when they launch the Open Green Map (opengreenmap.org) in the coming months.

Scott Heiferman, founder and CEO of Meetup, talks to us about how he learned to value communities, why he wants to make people powerful, and what we have to look forward to expect in the 21st century.

Greetings from the Lisbon Poets Hostel in Portugal. I will make this post quick, since I´m terribly confused by the punctuation on this keyboard, and should probably rest before my presentation tomorrow, but I want to share my experiences today, while they´re still fresh in my mind.

After being farmcore all weekend, it's awesome to ease into geekcore with cross-over friends (just look for the tell-tale dirty fingernails). I just met Richard Roth who's been creating Farmer's Markets that have both farm stands and social service booths with wireless internet access and guidance so people can sign up for needed services. Richard also showed me the "Harvest Bucks" his group created--people can exchange their food stamps for the Harvest Bucks and use these at the individual farm stands.

Looking forward to the conference to start tomorrow morning. Some of my interests include technology, sociology, volunteering and project management. I think I can work all of those into play tomorrow.
