Tole-rants Connect

Challenges Entered:
60 Seconds of Hope

Tole-rants is an international multimedia project that harvests the communication of inspiring and creative  solutions to social problems. It empowers anyone to record and share a 60 second video of hope in the form of a constructive rant (a tole-rant) that points to a solution. Videos are shared and voted on by the public. Tole-rants is a powerful, dynamic and free platform for socially conscious individuals, activists, charities, not-for-profits, social enterprises, social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, national and international NGOs and governmental bodies alike, to help spread awareness and build groundswells of support for their important social causes.

This years list of tole-ranters includes notable names such as like: Rajmoha Gandhi, journalist, peacebuilder and Grandson of the great Mahatma Gandhi; Karen Armstrong, best selling author and founder of the Charter for Compassion movement; Sir Steve Redgrave, five time Olympic champion and philanthropist and a long list of social leaders, youth activists and socially conscious citizens, all sharing their passionate tole-rant solutions with the world.  Partners such as The Council of Europe, The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Search for Common Ground and many other inspirational organizations have come on board to help spread this initiative.

The Tole-rants system is an effective, creative and easy to use platform for individuals and organizations to bring awareness to their causes, while supporting and offering the means for like minded people and organizations to build effective networks, facilitiating the sharing of resources, knowledge, skills and expertise in a mutually beneficial community.

Sustainability Model:
In its inaugural year the tole-rants project was supported financially by global tolerance while building a tremendous network of people and organizations who offered their support in many other manners. These include partners such as The Council of Europe, The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Search for Common Ground, Odyssey Networks, Youth Leader Magazine, and many other inspirational organizations that have come on board to help spread this initiative.
Expertise needed:
Directorial and promotional expertise to lead the vision, establish strategic partnerships, levy resources, bring awareness and provide accountability to the project.
Interactive Design and Social Media expertise to create and implement a complex and powerful interactive system in the most user friendly and intuitive way that takes advantage of the great power and low barriers of entry provided by the access to digital tools such as video cameras, mobile phones, smart phones, wireless internet, gps and location based technologies, and the pervasiveness of social media networks.
Programmers and a technical director knowledgeable in the languages of Python and You Tube API.
Project goals:
To create a self sufficient community that integrates seamlessly into the social media channels where the members are.
To create a self sufficient community that allows members to find and share the resources they need to develop their movements and establish niche communities/ social nodes that will help spread the word about their activities.
Identified Obstacles:
Less an obstacle than a challenge with workable solution, in the first year of its operations the Tole-rants project encountered the inevitable technical bumps in working with YouTube API. However we have learned from these challenges, we have currently improved the system. We have an extended plan to upgrade the system and iron out remaining technical kinks as we augment the communal interactivity of the Tole-rants Connect version in year two of the project.
