CrowdVoice

Tracking voices of protest

CrowdVoice brings together the global community with the topics you care about and want to follow. Information about human rights abuses, demonstrations and current events are chosen and approved by the community. The information is pooled from news sources, blogs, video and social networking sites. Anyone is able to contribute information, suggest new topics, or approve what others already submitted.

Sustainability Model: 
CrowdVoice does not yet have financial support. We welcome socially conscious investors worldwide to make a contribution. We have open sourced the platform to invite others to help build it, allowing anyone to repurpose it for their organizations however they wish. It's a unique tool that we feel other developers might find useful for their various causes and therefore help sustain it by growing the community and making the platform stronger with additional features.
Expertise needed: 
We make sure that absolutely anyone can get involved, hence the simple UI design, but if someone wishes to build upon the new tool, Ruby development skills would be needed.
Language volunteers (we are currently working on expanding the platform to make it available in other languages.)
Project goals: 
Organize and collect voices (video, blog, articles, photos, documents, links etc) around current social justice causes around the world
Giving activists power over information
Embracing openness for crowdsourced and community-moderated collaboration
Identified Obstacles: 
Moving further without financial support (we are hoping to receive financial assistance in order to create a mobile aspect of the CrowdVoice experience)
Moderation (ensuring there are enough moderators per voice/topic to maintain the quality of the content)
Community outreach (making other activists worldwide aware of the platform)
