Open Standards for Identity and Datasharing

I have talking about this throughout the conference.

Free the Data

Data interoperability and Open Standards so that people who own the data have control.

Planetwork has been working on this for a while - we published the Augemented Social Network white paper in 2003 about the vision of the Social Web.  Members of our community have been involved in the development of and the first implementations of two Open Standards at OASIS (one of the three internet standards bodies - IETF and W3C being the others). eXtensible Resource Identifier XRI   and XRI Data Interchange XDI. Datasharing creates the Data Web.  Boeing and Visa are involved in these efforts along with civil society interested parties.  (xri) i-names is a namespace for people and organizations governed by XDI.org. The first major implementation is being done in a large international women's nonprofit OoTao is a company leading the way in implementing in this space.

Making the Connections

Your question:

What is the relationship here between social change, as we have been using this phrase the last day and a half, nonprofits and the content of your conversation. I'm not saying that there is no connection(s) but there is no relevancy for your audience and resentment seems to be building. There's a reinforcement of the notion that you have no idea about nonprofits, social change, or our needs/wants/concerns.

Your question:

Aside from Google Adwords, I'd appreciate any examples or suggestions for how ICT-based social enterprise can be adopted by nonprofits who want to develop earned income but aren't tech-focused.

Thanks!

Two Forces: Empowered Individuals, and Social Entrepreneurs

Your question:

From my perspective at the CyberInstitute (online information for small businesses in developing countries), there are two major forces impacting the business model revolution.

--ONE-- ICTs, including mobile phones, and now all of Web 2.0, are leading to the empowerment of billions of people. These individuals, who are gaining equality with every click, are now customers that matter to big companies. In the flattening world, listening to the customer is more important than ever, because they are feeling empowered and want to be heard.

--TWO-- The rise of social entrepreneurs may be new, or it may just be a blurring of lines between traditional categories of organisations. Either way, enabling the mass of the world's populations to enjoy economic, social and political goods is going to matter to business. It will matter to the shareholders and to the employees of the businesses.

What do you think about the role of these two forces - the empowerment of the many, and the rise of social entrepreneurs?

What is ICT?

New web tools and their revenue models: fundraising 2.0 for nonprofits?

To what extent will micro-philanthropy sites like DonorsChoose.org change the way non-profits seek funding?

Ears Open. Mouth Closed

What am I bringing to the conference?  Open ears.  Open mind.  Closed mouth.  Okay.  I won't keep my mouth closed for the whole time, but I intend to do a lot more active listening than monologuing.  I'll do the monologue here:

What else will I bring?  Some book knowledge of the Millennial generation and a little experience in marketing to them in a higher education setting.

My experience? I have a little volunteer experience.  Some experience in building and maintaining online communities.  Some experience enabling citizen journalism (circa 1997).  Some exeperience in the .Gov world; some in the .Edu world.  I have ZERO experience in real programming, but I've been living and working online since 1993.
