Welcome to the 2009 N2Y4 Mobile Challenge -- an opportunity to develop and collaborate on Projects using mobile technology for social change, and compete for cash prizes.

Whether you've participated in a NetSquared Challenge in the past or you're new to the process, this page will provide the information you need to get started, and see your Project through to completion.

Now in its fourth year, NetSquared continues to encourage dialogue among people working at the intersection of technology and progressive change initiatives.

About this year’s Challenge:

Unlike year's past, N2Y4 will focus solely on the use of mobile technology.

Here are a couple of facts to consider:

1. Mobile phones are in the hands of 2.2 billion people around the world. That’s a lot of people.
2. Mobile technology provides every day people with unprecedented computing power and an ability to share information in real-time.

The creative possibilities for communities everywhere are tremendous.

How to Apply

Four Easy Steps to Participate:

• Register and/or Login
• Click on Username
• Click on "Submit a Project to the Project Gallery" under My Project Idea
• Select "N2Y4" from the Prize Tag menu located below Additional Cause Area Tags on the Submission Form

Please note that at this time our Submission Form does not support Safari or Chrome. Please use either Internet Explorer, Opera, or Firefox. If you'd like to use Safari or Chrome you will need to disable JavaScript in your browser in order to fill out the Submission Form, which may inadvertently also disable the editor. We are working on a solution and hope to have this fixed soon.

If you already have a Project in NetSquared's Global Project Gallery that you would like to submit to this year's Challenge, here are the easy steps:

1. Visit your Project Page by clicking on your username and following the link to My Project Idea
2. Click the "Edit" tab on your Project and select the corresponding "Prize Tag"
3. Edit your Project information for relevancy and save

• February 23, 20009 - Submission Period Begins 11:00am PST

How the Challenge Process Works

1. Submissions Open. Projects are submitted to the N2Y4 Project Gallery. Upon submission, Projects are able to receive feedback via comments, and integrate feedback into Project Proposals.
2. Submissions Close. Project editing is no longer enabled. Projects are encouraged to mobilize their supporters to ‘vote’ for their Project.
3. Community Voting. NetSquared opens voting for all registered users.
4. Featured Projects Published. The (14) Projects with the largest number of votes will be published on the NetSquared site by 11am PST on April 13, 2009.
5. Ongoing Project Development and N2Y4 Conference Preparation. Selected Projects will be invited to present their ideas in person at the conference, May 26-27, 2009 and compete for cash prizes.

Conference Award:
The Top Three Finalists will be selected by conference attendee vote, and announced May 27.

• A total of $50,000 in funding will be distributed among (3) Projects. First place $25,000, Second Place $15,000 and Third Place $10,000.
• All 14 Projects will receive a travel stipend to cover travel costs
• Accommodations will be covered and organized for all Featured Projects (2 people per Project) by NetSquared
