Techsoup event on Social Networking - List of Links

The Techsoup event on social networking was really nice. I learned a lot and even made some connections with people that might be usefull for my project. I thought it would be a good idea to put a list of links that where mentioned in the discussions. It proved to be a lot of work, so I might have missed some (you can put them in the comments).

So here are the links in a semi-random order taken from the techsoup forum. First the links from this techsoup post jlorance wrote:

PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING

GENERAL SOCIAL NETWORKS

PRIMARILY YOUTH AUDIENCE

COMMUNITIES FOCUSED AROUND IMAGES

VALUES ORIENTED

OTHER

From here on the links are more random. So you'll just have to click to see :).

Those links will be beneficial in social networking. There are growing number of individuals that got interested  to facebook. They are fond of the feature of meeting new friends, socializing and using some of its application. Even business   entrepereneurs uses this as a mode of advertising their products. More online groups start up every day.   It also creates business opportunities, as companies have a whole other medium and platform in which to advertise their products. They no longer have to rely on email campaigns.   (Most e-mail advertising gets deleted.)   You can stay connected with customers and update them on specials and new products.   Facebook can be quite the tool, and you don't need to get out the credit cards to join, since it's all-free.

Criboo.com

What about Criboo.com?
It was released 22th of Oct 2008.

It is a web 2.0 social networking community for sharing same interests and to get friends from all over the world.
There are not so much members but the list gets bigger for each day=)

More additions...

How about http://Ning.com the social network of social networks! In business there is also http://salesmanagement20.com

A new category for your list 'Create your own social networks'

There is a  site that you  haven't listed that I think is worth a mention:

http://www.simstreet.com

It allow you to create you own social networks and control your own ads slot. Well worth a look.

Another site to add to the list?

You should add http://friendsite.com to the list! It's a bit like facebook and myspace (groups and feeds like facebook and customizable profiles and your own url like myspace). You can also add photos & create photo albums, get your own url, customize your page, create groups and evites, blog, bookmark sites, create opinion polls, send gifts and much more.. best of all, its free!

Change.org

Obviously, at Cauzoo we're biased toward our own site, but sense we're just signing up causes, I don't know if we'd be on this list.

I do have to say, however, that Change.org should appear. They've definitely created a strong network of people who care and non profits should know about them (as well as networks like Zaadz that are a little more abstract).

annoying

sense=since (sorry, I'm anal retentive when it comes to my own grammar flubs)

Social networking site to add

You should add the social networking site friendwise.com to the list under general social networks as it is newer but has gotten over 17,000 members in a very short time and has more unique features than the other sites.

I am glad you found it helpful!

We are happy to hear that you found the online event to be helpful and we are even happier to learn that you have used the online event to network with others for your own project!  In case you all didn't know, TechSoup will be writing a follow-up on the online event, synthesizing all the facts and digesting the discoveries into a succinct article on Social Networking apps for nonprofits.  It is also timely to mention that Mark Liu  mentioned that My Space is second only to Yahoo! in page views.

If you missed the online event, don't worry.  The discussions are continuing in the TechSoup Emerging technologies Forum
