Net2ThinkTank: How Can Nonprofits Use Online Video to Raise Money?

This month's Net2ThinkTank question is, How Can Nonprofits Use Online Video to Raise Money? Below is a round up of posts that were submitted, along with a few addditional ones I found on the topic:

Michael Hoffman of See3 Communications posted 11 Tips for Using Online Video to Raise Money.

Manny Hernandez of the Diabetes Hands Foundation shared how they have raised almost $2,000 using a ChipIn widget, and calls to action on videos they added to TuDiabetes.com and YouTube. You can watch his video-based campaign reminder on his post,  Video-based Fundraising Campaign for TuDiabetes.com.

In a comment on Beth Kanter's post about this month's Net2ThinkTank, Brad Bell pointed to his post about Avaaz, Using Video to Speak Directly to Donors.  He describes Avaaz's videos as:

"• a message from someone on the ground
• from a representative of the people affected
• the representative speaks directly to the camera
• it is typically a ‘quick & dirty’ production with the bare minimum of titles and graphics
• everything about the video production speaks to the urgency of the cause."

In her post, How Can Nonprofits Use Online Video?, Joitske Hulsebosch of Lasagna and Chips lists five ideas:

1. Video can be a weapon for nonviolent nonprofits. You shoot with images.
2. Video brings across messages in a different way. Your message doesn't drown in a sea of text.
3. Online video by non-professional filmers has the "beauty of imperfection."
4. Online videos can walk or run across the Internet.
5. With online video, more people can enjoy the face-to-face events that you organise.

In her post, Watch reality fundraising TV at 1 ET today, Katya Andresen of Katya's Nonprofit Marketing Blog points to an article about how the Borgen Project used a 60-minute live broadcast on the web as a fundraiser. According to the article, "In addition to speaking with volunteers, donors can also chat with other supporters who are watching the live broadcast." Pretty cool, huh?

Sarah Perez recently reported  on ReadWriteWeb about another cool idea, Kiva is using Involver's video campaign tools on Facebook to attract new donors:

"The Involver marketing platform allows Kiva to build, launch, promote, manage, and track video campaigns which help them convert the video's viewers into customers. Video built with Involver can offer plug-ins like quizzes, surveys, and email capture to help engage the viewer and well as tools for sharing and viral distribution."

Big thanks to everyone who participated in the month's Net2ThinkTank.  If you have ideas for next month's Net2ThinkTank question, let me know.

Hi Britt- Thank you for

Hi Britt-

Thank you for mentioning Involver's end-to-end video campaign platform! We're excited to see more and more nonprofits and social enterprises use our tools.

Just a heads-up to the social change community ... we recently launched a Pilot Program. We're accepting applications until Friday, August 15th.

The program is an opportunity for Involver to offer significant value through close one-on-one consulting. We want program participants to have an excellent user experience all around (in setting up custom video plugins, in creating their own branded Facebook applications, etc.), but we also want to make sure that, at the end, these initial campaigns are successful and reach and engage their intended audiences.

We hope that some NetSquared readers and members will consider applying! The application process is quick. Just go to http://www.involver.com and hit the big blue button to get started.

Regards,

Nikki @ Involver

Awesome

I'll re-post this on the main blog feed to make sure folks see it.
