N2Y3Con: What's changed since last year?

This is Brenda Hough, live-blogging from the NetSquared Conference. Votes are being counted and we will soon know the winners of this year's Featured Projects competition. While we're waiting to hear the results, we're hearing a panel discuss "What's changed since last year?"

Rick Hess, TechSoup board member, is moderating the panel discussion, which consists of three individuals representing last year's winning projects.

2. Squarepeg "Help filter social data" "We're a lean mean software production machine."

N2Y3Con: Joomla

Good morning! This is Brenda Hough, kicking off my NetSquared day two blogging adventures by writing about the Joomla! session, presented by Ryan Ozimek, CEO of PICnet.

People have many identities on the web (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc...). The goal is to bridge the gap between all of those systems. Joomla! is not just a content management system. It's about being a CMS, but also bringing together identites in one place; combining social networking and the CMS.

N2Y3Con: Open Innovation in Civil Society

This is Brenda Hough, blogging my final session for day one of NetSquared. The topic is Open Innovation in Civil Society. The presenter, Cesar Castro, is the Research Director for the Institute for the Future.

About the Institute for the Future

Started as spin-off from the Rand Foundation

Health horizons group looks at the future of health. The technology horizons group looks at future trends with technology. And the ten-year forecast group looks at broad business and economic trends.

N2Y3Con: Collaborating for (a) Change - the Wikipedia Model

Hi! This is Brenda Hough, blogging another NetSquared session. This one is particularly exciting to me since it's about Wikipedia.

Erik Möller, Deputy Director, Wikimedia Foundation, presented.

Lesson #0: You don't scale.

N2Y3Con: Using Flickr to make Your Existing Community More Amazing, or to Create a New One

This is Brenda Hough, blogging live from the NetSquared conference, currently attending a session on Flickr and community. The presenter is Gail Ann Williams, community manager at the WELL.

Gail feels that Flickr is a great tool use for many things. Thinks a big part of its success is that there are multiple ways of finding people and sorting things. Another cool thing is that people have developed multiple expressions of culture around them.

N2Y3Con: Us, Our Organizations, and the Web

Brenda Hough here again, post-lunch, ready for the afternoon presentations to begin. I'm live-blogging a session called, "Us, Our Organizations, and the Web: Leveraging Identity Tools for Collaboration" presented by Kaliya Hamlin, Identity Woman.net.

N2Y3Con: Project Carnival

Hi there, Brenda Hough again, live-blogging from the Project Carnival at that NetSquared Conference. During the Project Carnival, conference attendees were able to visit table displays and chat with representatives from each of the 21 Featured Projects. One of the big challenges non-profits face is knowing how-to effectively communicate their message and mission in brief opportunities (I have heard this referred to as having your 'elevator speech' ready). During the carnival, it was interesting to watch the various project representatives work to help many, many people understand the importance and potential of their projects in a short timeframe.

N2Y3Con: 21 Featured Projects - Two Minute Introductions

Brenda Hough here, live-blogging at the NetSquared Year 3 Conference. The 21 Featured Project sessions kicked things off Tuesday morning, giving each of the featured projects 2 minutes to provide an overview. Throughout the conference, these project teams will have an opportunity to display and discuss their Mashups and attendees will vote to select the best three. All 21 projects at the conference will receive a share of $100,000 in prize money. The dollar amount each project is awarded will be determined by voting at the conference. We'll be blogging about each of the presentations and projects here over the next two days.
