N2Y3Con: More Projects: A Mashup of 29+ Social Action Application Platforms, Your Mapper, Rosetta Project

Again, here I am marveling at the innovation of these various projects and the many lofty goals they hope to achieve.

The one thing that comes to mind is that the attendees are slowly becoming bogged down with so much data, that the projects with the streamlined messaging will be the ones to win the big prize money.

We will find out the voting results this afternoon. But first, three more projects launch into discussions about their impact, goals, and why they're worthy of the prize money.

Your Mapper

Your Mapper allows anyone to map anything. That's the project in a nutshell.

N2Y3Con: All About: City of New Orleans Mashup, MetaVid, and Anti-Genocide Legislation Tracker

The hardest thing about N2Y3 is figuring out which of 21 innovative, creative, and passion-filled projects which will get my vote. (It's a good thing that they'll all receive a share of the $100,000 prize money.)

It's day two and this morning, three of the project teams provided details about their specific plans, their mashups, and their important work.

City of New Orleans Mashup for Citizen Monitoring of the Recovery

As data collection happens block by block in New Orleans after the floods, government is deciding to demolish houses -- and many times the residents are the last to know.

N2Y3Con: Microsoft Speaks to Attendees about Interactivity, Products

After the 21 innovative Net2 Featured Projects quickly made their two-minute introductions this morning on day one of N2Y3, Nicholas Kardas, Senior Product Manager in the Windows Live Platform team at Microsoft, took the stage.

He gave a short presentation on web behavior and ways nonprofits could use the company's new products -- even some free offerings -- to create more interactive web experiences.

During his talk, he pointed out that customers (or visitors) go to a site, not just to consume content, but to share and discuss it.

They want to do things like:

Welcome to Net2Y3 from Vince Stehle

As a live blogger, I'm here to make sure you get all the info you need -- straight from the N2Y3 conference. So here goes...

The NetSquared Y3 conference at Cisco kicked off this morning with Daniel Ben Horin, one of TechSoup's three CEOs, talking about the roots of the organization and one of the key players in its success.

Vince Stehle -- Program Officer of the Nonprofit Sector Support Program at the Surdna Foundation, a family foundation based in New York City -- has been at CompuMentor's side since the beginning. Stehle not only helped TechSoup in its infancy, but he's been involved in Net2 from the outset and gave funding to continue the work of the conference.

I am blogging this...introductions

Greetings, you don't know me yet, but I'm Alexandra Krasne and I'll be one of the live bloggers at N2Y3. I am a former journalist, former Managing Editor of TechSoup, have attended Net2 the past two years, and am thrilled to be attending again this year.

Seeing my former co-workers and meeting nonprofits doing innovative things with technology are just a couple of reasons I'm looking forward to this year's conference. And there are some great projects this year!

Share Your Opinions with TechSoup

As part of our coverage of the NetSquared Conference, TechSoup's editorial team -- with tape recorder and camera in hand -- plans to walk up to attendees and ask for their answers to some Web 2.0-related questions. We will take those answers and photos and publish them in an article on TechSoup.

So get ready: We may be approaching you at some point during the two-day event to ask you the following questions...

New TechSoup Article about Web 2.0

There's much talk about what Web 2.0 is and what it isn't. TechSoup's done its part to define and clarify some of the terms in its recent article, "What is Web 2.0 Anyway?"

http://www.techsoup.org/howto/articles/webbuilding/page4233.cfm

This piece doesn't encompass every Web 2.0 technology, rather it's meant to be a jumping-off point. Please feel free to add more Web 2.0 info on this blog or link to other articles on the topic.
