tweet4good: Donate and fundraise using Twitter.

1
star

What will change in the world because this Project happens?

tweet4good is a mashup that integrates Network for Good's donation processing platform with Twitter, allowing any user of this microblogging service to easily donate to any cause or organization.

Similarly, any nonprofit organization listed at Network for Good's database can start fundraising on Twitter just by creating a profile and tweeting about its cause.

As new social networks arise, reaching online users for fundraising becomes more of a challenge. The key for organizations will be to provide easy ways for people to send their donations, using each one of these networks and services.

How tweet4good works?

For donors:

1) If you are already on Twitter, follow tweet4good.
2) To donate to an organization, tweet $username (i.e. $techsoup). To donate to a cause, tweet $cause (i.e. $genocide).
3) You will receive a direct message with a link where you can place your donation.

For organizations:

1) Confirm that you are listed at Network for Good.
2) Create a Twitter account for your organization.
3) Start tweeting about your cause and invite your followers to donate.

Twitter gives nonprofit organizations the opportunity to share their stories and create a group of followers that later can be the support to a fundraising initiative. tweet4good allows users to easily donate to organizations that they follow and like.

We have a working demo of this mashup that you can test at www.tweet4good.org.

Automating Data into 4D Maps

What will change in the world because this Project happens?

By seeing an animated model of a changing world, people will better apprehend their context and the context of others.

Our mashup links an interactive map generators, our own and google earth and others, with bulk statistics on a wide range of issues. At our site, we host videos and snapshots of 3D interaction with the mapped data, AND we output KML files that load easily into Google Earth and other geobrowsers. As such, we are a multipurpose bridge between statistics and mapping environments, and by connecting these two domains will improve understanding of local and global concerns.

In regrad to the Net Squared community in particular, all NGO Issue advocates will have a new top-notch tool for drawing attention to their causes. By supporting their concerns with relevant data AND by making it easy to absorb the data, their issues will recieve more attention. For example, when looking at life-expectancy in Africa, and then seeing it drop during the genocide in Rwanda, and again as AIDS spread through the south, viewers will apprehend the gravity of these issues much better than if they only hear numbers or see tables.

The same impact can usefully be applied to charting changing unemployment patterns or crime statistics in a city and countless other issues. Our team is keen to work with the Net Squared community, to serve as a bridge for them, to bring in and forge connection to whatever data they are interested in seeing. We are presently providing access to the data of many international organizations and also have brought in data for neighborhoods and cities across the US. We are eager to expand our data offerings and have automated tools for creating connections to new sources.

What will change in the world because this Project happens?

Social Actions aggregates peer-to-peer social change campaigns so that individuals, organizations, and 3rd-party developers can find, support and mashup grassroots solutions to local and global problems.

Test drive the current version of the Social Actions mashup

Social Actions brings together active campaigns from 29+ platforms into a single open API and search interface. The aggregator uses mark-up in the feeds to identify semantic data relating to the location, subject, time-frame, and goal of each campaign.

This innovation permits prospective donors, individuals and web apps to run queries on and map visually the dataset as a whole. We see a huge potential in the 29+ platforms to promote peer-to-peer social change. We’re pursuing this work to amplify their impact and to bring about a world in which everyone is a changemaker.
