Key issues, changes and trends
•        Democratized media sphere in the sense that we can all participate. Tools of media are now in hands of pretty much everyone who wants to use them, at least in developed world. Getting cheaper and easier to get, but phone companies making that more difficult.
News media has something new to think about. Moving from what had been a lecture to a conversation.
Citizen reporting means that anyone can be a journalist. Journalism is becoming less about the "facts" and more about opinions from many sources.
Editors playing a more important role because they make the information easy to read and accessible to the masses.

Successful tools and techniques
•      Self assembling news networks.
Wikipedia writing articles about things they know about. Take into account what people you disagree with most would say. Community aspect.
Mashups, taking data from over there and "whapping" them together. (Map of Chicago city data on crime put together with Google Maps)
Nanopublishing, people making a living publishing ads on blogs (sold to AOL for millions of dollars)

•        Access to tools and helping people use them
Translating and contextualizing what people are saying
Amplifying voices
Why Ohmynews so successful: 1) lopsided coverage of mainstream in favor of conservative camps.
